Bringing UK alumni in New York together since 2010

The UK Alumni Group of New York is an informal, non-commercial network that helps UK alumni communities in New York and the Tri-state area collaborate, share resources, and put on better events together.

Why We Exist

Most UK universities and schools have alumni living across New York and the Tri-state area. A few run mature, well-resourced chapters here. Most do not: their alumni groups are informal, volunteer-led, and limited by scale and budget. That makes regular, well-attended programming hard to sustain.

The UK Alumni Group of New York was founded in 2010 in collaboration with the British Council to close that gap. By bringing organizers together and aggregating alumni audiences across institutions, we help events reach a viable size and give the whole community a fuller, more consistent calendar.

We also encourage chapters to share what they have learned, and we point organizers toward other resources and networks.

Our Mission

To strengthen engagement among UK alumni in New York and the Tri-state area by helping organizers collaborate, raising the scale and quality of alumni programming, and supporting member institutions’ outreach through shared initiatives.

What We Do

  • Bring together the organizers who run UK alumni chapters in New York to share plans, ideas, and lessons learned.
  • Host and promote events that appeal to UK alumni across institutions.
  • Offer a broader, steadier calendar of professional, social, and intellectual events.
  • Provide a neutral, institution-agnostic platform that complements the work of individual alumni offices.
  • Raise the visibility and value of UK alumni communities in New York.

What We Don’t Do

We are deliberately light-touch. To keep it that way, there are some things we do not do:

  • We do not fundraise from alumni.
  • We do not monetize events or sell sponsorships.
  • We do not collect or manage alumni personal data.
  • We do not interfere with any university’s branding or policies.

How We Are Run

We are led by a volunteer Advisory Committee drawn from participating organizers. Committee members serve one-year terms. The Advisory Committee operates under a written Charter that sets out its governance, conflict-of-interest principles, and a Code of Conduct for our events and communications. We have no commercial purpose and run on a cost-neutral basis.

Working With Institutions

We complement, and do not replace, the alumni-relations offices of individual institutions. We do not represent any university officially unless asked to, and taking part never obligates an institution to join any particular event. Each organizer remains responsible for following their own institution’s alumni-engagement policies.
